Dahlia Rug by Normann

£260.00

Dahlia is a series of round rugs. With a background in traditional floor ornaments, Claydies has used geometry and reflections to interpret rugs in a new way. Using the motive of the Dahlia flower, hence the name of the rug, Dahlia is both decorative and adds colour and dynamism to decor.

Claydies has found particular inspiration in genuine rugs, where the decoration often contains repetition, reflection and floral motives. Armed only with a mirror, a compass and coloured pencils Claydies has toyed with traditional geometric forms and created a pattern that is modern in form, colour and expression.

Claydies explains

We are used to working three-dimensionally in stoneware. However, arug has a two-dimensional form that places other demands on us on creating depth in the design. We have therefore worked with a round shape that creates good dynamics in the rug´s motif. We got hold of Karens old compass and a bunch of coloured pencils and played around with simple geometric forms and reflections. In this way the motif of the Dahlia was created and we believe that the rug has now achieved both a classic royal and a modern funky appearance.
